Martin Atkins is taking his new book Tour:Smart on the road, conducting guest lectures, seminars, and info session for bands and music business students all over the country. The 600-page book, released in September of '07, contains chapters on everything from routing and geography, to drugs, merchandising, and how to get a better live sound... and in addition to deposing Martin's 30 years of experience as a touring musician, label owner, and tour manager, Tour:Smart also contains contributions from over 100 industry professionals: musicians, booking agents, managers, club owners, publicists, bus drivers, police officers, groupies, and more.
Martin Atkins has drummed with PiL, Killing Joke, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, Pigface, and The Damage Manual, among others. As owner of the now 20-year old Invisible Records he has worked with artists such as Thrill Kill Kult, Einsturzende Neubauten, Chemlab, Chris Connelly, Sheep On Drugs, Murder Inc, Psychic TV, etc. He owns Mattress Factory Studios in Chicago, that has been home to Pigface, Rx (featuring Ogre from Skinny Puppy), Meg Lee Chin, The Damage Manual, Murder Inc, Jared Louche of Chemlab, H3llbent, Bile, Gravity Kills, Sheep on Drugs, and much much more.
